About Scripture Sleuth

Scripture Sleuth is a daily word-puzzle inspired by Redactle. Each day, the text of one Bible chapter is shown with most words redacted. You guess one word at a time to reveal it everywhere it appears in the passage. When you think you know which book the passage is from, name it from the list of 66. You may then try to guess the chapter correctly to be deemed a True Scripture Sleuth.

Rules

  1. Type a word and press Enter. Every occurrence of that word reveals.
  2. A short list of common words (the, of, thee, thou, โ€ฆ) is pre-revealed and doesn't count toward your score.
  3. Numbers are visible. Punctuation is visible. Verse numbers are shown as small green superscripts.
  4. Tap "๐Ÿ“– Guess Book" to name the book. A wrong guess adds 5 to your score; a right guess wins.
  5. After winning, you may try to name the chapter โ€” get it right and you're a True Scripture Sleuth โญ. Wrong chapter guesses don't cost anything.
  6. Psalms and Proverbs are special โ€” recognizing the book isn't enough since each chapter is its own self-contained piece. You must name the chapter to win.
  7. Lower score is better.

Hints ๐Ÿ’ก

If you're stuck, the ๐Ÿ’ก Hint button reveals up to three clues, in order:

  1. Testament โ€” Old or New.
  2. Category โ€” broad genre such as Law, History, Wisdom, Prophecy, Gospel, Epistle, or Apocalyptic.
  3. Theme โ€” a one-sentence description of what the book is about.

The number of hints you used is recorded alongside your final score. Using any hint forfeits the True Scripture Sleuth โญ badge for that puzzle, even if you go on to name the chapter โ€” the badge is reserved for unaided solves.
